Use of Education Management System:
Istanbul Topkapı University aims to integrate appropriate technologies into the educational process to enrich and increase its efficiency, making this process location-independent and enabling lifelong learning for every individual in society. To achieve this goal, educational programs are developed considering individual needs and learning differences. The technologies used are selected to support formal education programs and enable blended and distance learning.
The e-learning Unit Coordination aims to integrate information and communication technologies into the educational process, implement distance and blended learning, and enrich face-to-face education in light of these technologies. It aims to monitor the development of information and communication technologies and utilize these technologies for educational purposes. It also aims to coordinate all activities involving the use of technology in education, and it particularly supports all units in the implementation of all programs and activities related to distance and blended learning programs.
The duties and responsibilities of the coordinatorship:
» Selecting the necessary technologies for the distance and blended education programs run by the university, working with the company and other units of the vocational school to ensure that the selected technologies are ready for use,
» Determining infrastructure and service standards related to distance education, and developing quality improvement methods,
» Ensuring that information and communication technologies-supported educational activities are carried out effectively and efficiently,
» Negotiating with the private sector regarding the provision of course content, and coordinating the procurement and integration process in collaboration,
» Providing training and information to ensure that faculty members and students who will be included in the e-learning system can use the system smoothly,
» Developing the course content needed for distance education or blended education courses with the relevant faculty member, providing consultancy services in this regard, and ensuring the necessary coordination,
» Controlling the operation of the e-learning system as a whole, monitoring its compatibility, and ensuring the smooth operation of the process.
Istanbul Topkapı University uses the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS), which is actively used in approximately 240 countries and more than 445,000 institutions. Moodle basically provides and manages opportunities such as content presentation, information sharing, measurement and evaluation.
Synchronous courses at Istanbul Topkapı University are conducted using a virtual classroom application and video conferencing technology. The virtual classroom application allows instructors and students to interact simultaneously in different locations. Video conferencing technology, available in cities outside Istanbul, allows students to listen to lectures from faculty members located elsewhere in a classroom environment.
