Objectives of the Department
The History Department at Istanbul Topkapı University, established in 2018,
proudly celebrated its first graduates in 2022. Since its establishment, the department
has continued to evolve, embracing new approaches to history education and
offering students the opportunity to learn from expert lecturers in their fields.
Graduates of our department achieve successful careers in various areas of
history, supported by the high-quality education they receive. They can pursue
academic careers, work as researchers, or contribute to state institutions and private
organizations operating in the field of history.
To ensure students receive a higher education, our curriculum incorporates up-
to-date and innovative approaches to history. Alongside core courses, students
benefit from a multidisciplinary education by taking courses from different
departments and brances, broadening their vision and skill sets.
Our department aims to provide students not only with historical knowledge, but
also to foster their critical thinking, research abilities, and written and oral
communication skills, equipping students to excel in both academic and professional
environments.
Program Duration
The undergraduate History program consists of eight semesters of education
and training. Education in this program is carried out face-to-face. The language of
instruction is Turkish.
Job Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of History have diverse career opportunities in
both private and public sectors. They can work as historians or archivists in various
institutions. In addition to taking jobs at private research centers, foundations,
archives, and libraries, they can pursue careers as teachers in the Ministry of
National Education and private high schools, as researchers in the Ministry of Culture
and Tourism, or as lecturers at universities.
