In the globalizing world, the necessity of knowing a foreign language has become inevitable. Nowadays, English is the most widely spoken language worldwide. However, it cannot be assumed that individuals proficient in both English and other languages can translate every subject effectively. At this point, there are many important reasons to receive translation education.
Translation education is a crucial option for those who aim to develop translation skills, acquire language proficiency, create cultural awareness, strengthen communication skills, enhance personal development, and access various professional opportunities.
At Istanbul Topkapı University, we have designed a comprehensive training program that encompasses all of these competencies and is compatible with the realities of our time. Our department aims to train professional translators specialized in communication between different languages and cultures.
Our department offers compulsory and elective courses in law, economics, literature, social sciences (philosophy, sociology, psychology, etc.). These courses provide the opportunity to gain field knowledge in these areas before starting specialized translation courses. In parallel with the education received, our curriculum includes relevant translation specialization courses.
Our program prepares you to gain proficiency in multiple languages by developing grammar and vocabulary in both source and target languages through writing and speaking skills courses. Additionally, second foreign language acquisition (Spanish, German, French etc.) is also included in our curriculum. Through the courses provided, you will be able to strengthen your analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for understanding, interpreting, and transferring texts effectively using written and oral communication. After graduating from this department, you will have the opportunity to work as a translator and communication expert in many sectors such as international companies, institutions operating in the fields of law and medicine, media organizations, and language and translation services.
