Objectives of the Department
The primary objective of our Philosophy Department here in İstanbul Topkapı University is
to raise skilled and knowledgeable experts in the field of philosophy. Using the basic
philosophical principles and skill set as our guide, our department aims for students to build a
mastery in analyzing the theoretical and practical problems of our world, and to draw
meaningful conclusions out of them both locally and globally. Throughout its centuries-long
history, philosophy has aimed to provide inclusive evaluations of the events of its time. And
the philosophers who were nurtured within this environment of curiosity and critical thinking
have proposed ideas that shaped entire eras and societies. Behind all actions that merge under
the name of civilization and culture lies a certain philosophical accumulation and an openness
to new ideas. Today this effort is far from being over! Contemporary philosophers continue to
debate the fundamental pillars of our age and propose new solutions. Joing those who walk
this path begins with questions rather than answers. We invite you to join our department to
prepare for this historical journey and to set forth on this path together.
