As information proliferates and life is increasingly automated, it is very important to cultivate reason, creativity and imagination. It is our vision to help you do it. At İstanbul Topkapı University, we are committed to preparing you for all aspects of your creative and professional life. We offer you rigorous academic training in all aspects of literature, culture, history, and critical theory. Our teaching takes many different forms: group lectures, one-on-one consultation, and supervision. In the first two years, students are guided through the full range of literature in English, from Beowulf to recent fiction, poetry, and drama from all parts of the English-speaking world, and we make a point of ensuring that the studies we provide at our department include the entirety of literature’s social, cultural, historical, and interpretive contexts. In the latter two years,
The esteemed academics at our department cover the breadth of British and American literary and cultural studies ranging from the Middle Ages to the present, including (but not limited to) popular literature, science fiction, literary Gothic, posthumanism, utopian/dystopian and apocalyptic fiction. They publish regularly in a myriad of areas within the discipline.
At our department we help you develop critical thinking, advanced communication, and complex information processing skills that are essential in the increasingly competitive job market. We show you how to use your knowledge to address the most pressing challenges of our times. From the classics to the contemporary works, we inquire into diverse perceptions, descriptions, and representations of reality and guide you towards mastery of these representations. Our aim is to help you understand how literature can address social problems, gender and race issues, and the ecological crisis as well as learn how to create your own edition of a literary work or publish your own.
We also organize activities, including seminars, workshops, readings by authors and other social events that bring our community together. In these workshops and events, you can explore new areas of literature and learn skills like editing or project management. In our department, we, therefore, ensure that, alongside academic skills, you gain other essential skills that will help you stand out in your career path after graduation.
