As a discipline, psychology is at the crossroads where scientist and practitioner approaches are called for in an urgent and critical manner. Today’s world is full of problems which are manifested at the behavioral, affective and cognitive level; starting with the mental health crisis, and then followed by great resignation in the world of work, and finally, climate change which threatens the lives of not only humans but also all other species which are inhabiting the planet for millions of years to date.
As a scientific field, psychology needs to use the most state-of-the-art methodologies, tools and techniques for the betterment of our planet considering all aspects of human functioning in terms of behaviors, cognition and affect. As a practicing field, psychology needs to come up with the most user-friendly and current solutions so that humanity finds many important ways and tools to thrive, not just to survive.
In this era of constant challenge, as a psychology department, we are aiming to be an important part of this healthy adaptation initiative through the adoption of the scientist-practitioner approach targeting many problems experienced at all levels of human functioning to the best of our ability.
With ten tenured and non-tenured faculty members, 525 undergraduate Turkish/International students, and 212 postgraduate students, our psychology department is ready to offer one of the best psychology education programs in our region through its undergraduate and graduate programs tailored to the needs of our students who are local or international.
